2007 Horsmonden Dry White

"Why go to Italy for a light, delicate wine when it's grown in England? This mild elegant wine comes from a young winemaker who trained in Australia. It's in conversion too, which means it's half way to being organic" - Sarah Jane Evans, BBC Good Food Magazine, May 2003

Blended from the best grapes picked from our Horsmonden vineyard, this is a bone-dry white wine, made in a "Loire" style. It has plenty of fruit and tangy citrus flavours, with a hint of yeast in the background, good concentration and length. This is our "flagship" wine, making up almost 60% of our annual production in most years, but in 2007 because of the poor flowering conditions, this is the only wine we are making. The 1997 and 1998 vintages were sold to the Millennium Dome in London, chosen to represent English wines. The 2005 vintage won the Soil Association Food Awards Gold Medal (for the best organic wine world-wide). This vintage (2007) is concentrated in flavour and has that extra dimension of mineral character that comes from the terroir of our vineyard. It is currently still in tank and tasting quite forward. Bottling is planned for April 208 and it sould be available in May.  I am sure that as usual for our dry white wines this will develop over the coming year.

The blend, as in previous vintages is based on the Ortega, Bacchus, Faberrebe and Huxelrebe. No Siegerrebe was picked in 2007.

We recommend this wine to accompany most food,  white meats, fish and it is especially good with smoked or slightly spicy food - extremely versatile wine for all occasions.
