Have you ever tasted a wine that felt a little bit wild, a little bit playful - and completely alive? Our 2024 Pet Nat is just that. Fresh, vibrant, and naturally sparkling, it’s a wine that captures the essence of summer in a bottle. But what exactly is Pet Nat, and how does it differ from traditional sparkling wines like Champagne? Let’s take a closer look.

What is Pet Nat, Anyway?

ree

Pet Nat - short for Pétillant Naturel - is one of the oldest and most natural ways to make sparkling wine.

Made using the méthode ancestrale, the wine is bottled partway through its first fermentation.

The fermentation finishes in the bottle, trapping natural CO₂ and creating a gentle fizz. Unlike traditional sparkling wines (such as Champagne), which undergo a second fermentation in the bottle with added yeast and sugar (known as the traditional method), Pet Nat keeps things simple:

  • No added yeast

  • No added sugar

  • No sulphites

  • No filtering or fining

  • But 100% fresh pressed organic grapes!

The result? A sparkling wine that’s a little more unpredictable, a lot more expressive - and completely true to its origins.

Inside the 2024 Vintage: Our Pet Nat’s Evolution

We’ve been quietly honing our Pet Nat since 2014, and the 2024 release feels like a milestone.

This year’s wine is led by Pinot Noir (72%), giving it a delicate rosy hue and soft red-berry character. Pinot Meunier (10%) brings depth, while Auxerrois (18%) adds a lift of freshness.

The wine spent six months on its lees (the fine yeast sediment left after fermentation), which brings a gentle, creamy texture and a touch of savoury complexity. After a brief disgorgement, the wine retains a little natural haze, depending on how you pour it.

You might notice:

  • Redcurrant and wild strawberry on the nose

  • Subtle floral notes—think hedgerow blossom

  • A flicker of citrus on the finish

  • And those soft, lively bubbles that make it oh-so-sippable.

To Haze or Not to Haze?

Some people like their Pet Nat clear—so they stand the bottle upright, let the sediment settle, and pour gently. Others shake things up (sometimes literally!) and enjoy the cloudiness, which gives the wine more texture and flavour. There’s no right or wrong way—just follow your preference.

Serving Suggestions

This is a wine for moments - sunny afternoons, spontaneous picnics, or just when you’re in the mood for something a little bit different. Chill in the fridge for a couple of hours for best results!
